How to Wind Down in the Evening & Reduce Stress

Look at you investing in your well-being and growing as an individual. You should be proud of yourself. You’re making the right moves towards a happier and healthier lifestyle by doing what’s necessary to benefit your future self. Go you!

Let’s be honest. Did we get a good routine going? Have we mastered our mornings yet? Now, if you’re thinking, “I’m not exactly where I want to be at the moment,” you probably aren’t the only one. Don’t worry, it’s September. You’ve got plenty of time to align yourself with your new year’s resolutions still.

So how do you keep the forward momentum going? First and foremost, stay positive. You never know what someone may be going through, so be kind always. Primarily, you might consider pushing yourself to sticking to your plans and seeing them through whether they be long-term or short-term goals. Also, reward yourself! Never forget to give yourself a pat on the back every once in a while for even the small, seemingly-insignificant achievements. Most importantly, you educate yourself. Stay humble and acknowledge your mistakes. Create healthy habits, find inspiration and try out new ideas. Challenge yourself. Remember to let go of your fears as they do not serve you. You’re committing to the journey from here on out. Believe in yourself.

Great, now that all sounds easier said than done, right? Monday morning comes and goes, you’re done with work for the day, and thinking about winding down. What are you doing with your spare time?

Unwinding with a glass of wine? Binge watching all your favorite Netflix shows? Avoiding major responsibilities until you pass out for the night? If you want to live life with a “rich” mindset, your free time might include planning, working out, educating yourself, reading meditating, or learning a new skill. On the contrary, a “poor” mindset engages in being lazy, complaining about work, and gambling away your earnings.

Try this instead:

    Evaluate your day – What amazing things happened today? How could you have made today even better? What do I plan on accomplishing tomorrow? This will help you reflect on the good throughout your day, ensuring you end your day on a positive note.
    Write things down – Studies has shown that when one writes down their goals on a regular basis, they have a much higher chance of achieving them. This is because when we write things down, we ignore our subconscious mind, which is a manifestation powerhouse. Look into the power of scripting. Also, if you don’t already have one, get at least one journal.
    Plan the next day – Visualize your success. See yourself going through your daily routine. You’ll be better prepared if you already know what to expect.
    Unplug – Two hours of no phone before bed. Give your eyes and neck a rest from being strained all day, just trust me on this.
    Maintain personal hygiene – Consider showering, washing your face, flossing, brushing your teeth, and moisturizing at least daily. Be sure to treat your body right by avoiding harsh chemicals and remember to read the labels. Opt for sulfate free, paraben free, fluoride free, and cruelty-free products.
    Dim the lights – Set the tone by turning the lights down low for a better night’s sleep.
    Evening exercise – Light movement is beneficial for you at this time and be sure to stretch. Stretching helps to relieve muscle tension and prevent sleep-disrupting cramps whereas doing a big workout before bed can have the opposite effect.
    Prepare tomorrow’s outfit – What you want is to make things flow in the morning to reduce stress. If that means setting your clothes out the night before so you don’t spend extra time trying to figure out what you need, then take the necessary time to make your life easier.
    Connect with loves ones – Make sure to check in with your support circle. Even if it’s just you and one other person, pour into each other to build one another up.
    Read – It doesn’t matter if you only have time for 10 pages every night, or if it’s one chapter every week, or even one book every other month. Reading before bedtime is a great way to unwind and expand your mind.
    Set alarm and put phone away – Yes, you heard me. If you use the alarm on your phone to wake up in the morning, set your alarm and put the phone away somewhere you won’t be tempted to use prior to going to sleep. Keep practicing this until you form the habit.
    Sleep earlier – I’m guilty of not doing this consistently, but we must try to sleep earlier. More sleep is more important.

So my question for you is, are you being true to yourself? Are you living a life full of joy? What sparks joy in your life? The first thing you think of is your answer. Too often we spend time and energy searching for answers when they’re right in front of us. Make the choice to live in gratitude for what you have and where you’re at today. Leave the past where it belongs, and focus on the here and now. The future is bright, you have to see it to believe it.

When You Can’t Find the Sunshine, Be the Sunshine

Mes amours…C’est August. Loves, August! Give it up for yourselves, you’ve made it around the sun through yet another Leo season 🦁 I’m so glad you’re here. How we doing? Yo, the other day my homie straight up asked me how my finances were?

This is a true story:

For the first time in my life, I got really serious about my current financial situation. Instead of getting defensive for them asking such a rude statement or complaining about the things I cannot control, I simply came clean and told him I wasn’t where I wanted to be as far as long-term and short-term savings but I was working on it. I had a plan. I didn’t go into detail on how I manifested $12K recently, but hopefully he’s reading about it now.

No lie, $12,000 into my bank account. Yes. You’re wondering why I’m not completely freaking out about this kind of money? That’s because I recite these words aloud to myself every morning when I get up and every night before I go to bed:

That’s right, I asked for it, and how do you suppose you will receive things if you don’t ask for them? Now, you can’t just sit there expecting this type of stuff, you have to have a little faith too. You could put in the work, and be consistent with positive affirmations while expressing gratitude daily. Though, what you think in your mind and speak into the universe may or may not come to fruition how you’d like it to. I believed I had some good karma coming my way and I’ve been meditating on this financial situation since last year. With time and patience comes happiness and reward. Trust me on this.

So check this out:

Bad luck happens all the time, whether it be that parking ticket that turned out to be $170, that $300 you owe your mom just because she’s your mom, or that time you forgot to pay your car registration the month it was due and ended up being $400 more than you wanted to spend. It’s all about how you choose to react to what’s happening to you. That is your character and your philosophy of life. Last year I chose the unhealthy choice to live my best life acting like I could ball out of control, taking trips, treating myself and my friends, and not once having the desire to ask for gas money. My self love meter was low so my debt increased as a result, and I ended up maxing out my credit card. This is coming from a person who luckily never had to deal with student loans or debit besides a car note thanks to her granddaddy who is a retired Air Force veteran. You’d think I would have learned my lesson by now, but nope, bad choices paired with bad habits turned into a recipe for stress.

Most days I would attempt to survive off a couple of Beyond Avocado tacos from Del Taco just so I could have enough gas to make it to work and back. When you’re living paycheck to paycheck, you shouldn’t have to put your health in jeopardy. Remember to save even a small amount, and always pay yourself first. For me, it didn’t even matter if I had only $5 or $50 to my name. I chose to face the day with positivity and a smile, knowing and reminding myself that better days were ahead. I would even hit up a close friend for money and made sure to pay them back once pay day rolled around after I had just depleted my entire year’s worth of cash savings for my rent. Thank goodness for my community and the genuine love shared between each of us. Vibes don’t lie. It’s a beautiful thing.

So there is this this called interest rate. Mine went all the way up to 25%, meaning for all my outrageous purchases from last year, I was being taxed on all the fun I had. Make sure you know how your money works ladies and gentlemen, that way you can make your money work for you. Ladies especially, do not wait until someone does everything for you. Fast forward to recently when I hadn’t even been able to make payments to my credit card bill due to my car note, insurance, and other living expenses. I knew something had to give, so I returned to nature and joined in on a local meet up and group meditation at what’s known as “Vibe Tribe” hosted by my good friends of Function Presents. https://instagram.com/function.presents?igshid=1h77bijj85dqg

Here, we enjoyed a guided meditation and sound bath on the beach, engaged in breathing exercises and set our intentions a-flame, releasing our written words into the universe together while sharing our space and energy with one another. This is where I made my wish. My wish was to let go of the fear of talking to grandfather about my financial issues by the following week. I gave myself a deadline, this is important.

That week, I talked to my mom. I called my grandfather. He talked to my mom. More back and forth with my grandfather via text. I told my him I was coming to visit. The next weekend, I visited my grandparents and busted a solo mission out to Las Vegas, NV with just enough money and gas for a one-way trip including a home cooked meal from their meal delivery, along with a smile and little hope for a miracle.

…I obviously made it back home to Cali with a full tank of gas because my grandparents love me and I love them! Also showing genuine concern and appreciation go a long way, never forget that. But nonetheless, I was granted my miracle of being able to pay my credit card bill. Now, I’m going grocery shopping, meal prepping, eating healthy, feeling blessed and way less stressed. If I can do it, you can too. So, guess what? We can manifest our realities. Think about that for a second.

Alright, that’s enough. Come back to this present moment. Think about something you desire? What does your current debt situation look like? How do you plan on recovering?

You could try something like this starting today:

Don’t forget to pay yourself first…Do it. Go on, reread it again if you need to. Screenshot it. Save it if you need. Keep it safe.

Make a wish…

Just do this one thing for me please. Make a wish. Say it out loud, “I wish,” and speak it into the universe. She’s always listening.

Okay, so what did you wish for? Was it for love or happiness? Health or good fortune? Don’t tell me! Whatever you wish for, I hope that you get it. Matter of fact, I know that you will. You deserve it! As for me, my wish is to stay focused on my creativity and planning for the future while maintaining a healthy and loving relationship with myself. How do I plan on achieving such a daunting task, you ask? With love, of course!

Choose healthy and positive life choices by waking up each day with a fresh new mind ready to learn and an open heart ready to give and receive love. Now get out there! What attaches you to this world?

For me, what attaches me to this world are the instant connections made with others. I feel like we’re all lost souls floating around in space, so desperate for someone to show us a sign of love or a gesture of compassion. My goal is to transform my ego of the immature childish mind to the mature holistic and spiritually focused ego of the true mature adult, focused on moral virtue as opposed to childish self-centeredness.

What would make today great?

If I could put more energy towards releasing my ego attachment and not lose sight of who I really am. I aim to constantly remind myself that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Focus energy towards repeating small acts to fulfill my dream of becoming more in tune with the universe and my spirituality.

3. I got to enjoy a couple hours plotting out a business plan with a close friend.

How could I have made today even better?

If I could, I would have liked to spend more time visiting local restaurants to be able to provide reviews for different menu items or offerings.

Welcome! You made it ☺️ I’m so glad because there is something really important I need to tell you…

I love you!

Really, I mean that.

What’s good my peeps? How are we doing today? What feelings are swirling inside you? Do we have summertime sadness or summertime gladness? Are we shining from the inside out? If not, stay calm, there are better days ahead.

So tell me why I’m chilling on my toilet laughing to myself?

Because, I had reached a point in my day when procrastination was kicking in heavy. Luckily, I snapped out of it and I thought to myself as I relieved myself upon my porcelain throne. Every wasted golden opportunity goes down the drain and is forgotten like the weekly trash that gets picked up in front of my house. I’m talking about that would’ve, could’ve, should’ve, almost seized, tiny, insignificant idea you gathered in that gorgeous mind of yours and so carelessly gave up on because you didn’t believe in yourself enough. You know what I’m talking about, and we do it constantly.

What if we went out on a limb and put a little faith into our hopes and dreams? Where would we be if we simply tried? I think of these things sometimes as I often come up with creativite sparks throughout my day. I also use the restroom pretty frequently as I attempt to stay hydrated, and I can’t help but to wonder each and every time I flush the toilet, there goes another golden egg flushed like Veruca Salt. Time to complain about what I don’t have until another fresh idea pops up. I really need to put those thoughts into actions. Don’t even get me started on golden showers… it amazes me the things we come up with that are both are justifiable and inevitable.

This belief coined by John O’Sullivan in the 19th century was the idea that Americans were destined, by God, to govern the North American continent. Our entire world has changed because of thinking like this, which leads me to wonder where we would be had this concept not gone over well with the people living at that time?

There is always this question stuck in mind about how to bring people together, bridge communities and awaken my loved ones to all the beauty that is all around us? Is it even worth it to attempt such a thing, should I just let people be and go on about my business, do I even know what I’m doing? I’m finding that instead of sitting around and thinking about it, I could make better use of my time by simply leading by example. Life is merely an occasion, so rise to it.

This is where self love comes into play! Instead of focusing on ways to make people better around you, stick to knowing yourself. Know and use your strengths, be honest with yourself, feel your feelings and speak kindly to yourself. Most importantly, surround yourself with people who treat you with kindness and respect.

If these are things you currently practice, try a different approach:

• Say “no” when you need to

• Allow yourself down time

• Be truly present

• Give yourself a treat

• Let yourself off the hook for mistakes and imperfections

• Work on forgiving yourself for bigger stuff

• Accept the fact that some people won’t like you

• Make fun a priority

• Practice gratitude

• Write down your successes

• Take good care of your body

• Pursue a hobby

• Stand up for yourself

• Write yourself a love letter

• Ask for help when you need it

All you have to do is pick one of these things to try and I guarantee you’ll be feeling happily imperfect in no time. If I can do it, then you can do it too. Of course, not everything comes easily, so with a little patience and effort, self love will become second nature to you. Just don’t give up! Soon you’ll see people around you treating you with the same love and respect that you give to yourself.

Checking in is one of the most important gifts we can give to ourselves. How we look on the outside has everything to do with how we’re feeling on the inside. We’re loving ourselves, right? So, my question to you is why not show it? By knowing our limits, honoring our needs and desires, as well as taking the necessary time to heal and to repair our bodies, we’re able to give ourselves more spark to radiate our internal light ✨

Home Girl Tips on Transforming Your Identity

• Daily Affirmations:

I have time to do things I love.

I love my body.

I am beautiful, funny and intelligent.

• Build Good Relationships:

Most people think they have no choice but to accept toxic relationships in their life. Remember that no one in the universe is more deserving of love than you. Give yourself permission to cut negative people from your life, and surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you.

• Develop Competence:

The only thing that matters today is making things happen. Can you get this done? Are you able to solve difficult problems in a timely manner? Most people don’t really want to be happy, or they don’t think they have the resources to be; They want to complain and make excuses because it’s hard to be happy. It requires improving a little each day which takes commitment, integrity, and accountability. Still, I suggest changing your attitude to see the good in things. Trust me on this one. Make it happen.

• Be As “Free” As Possible:

You can choose not to give power to any person, or any goal, or any object, or any situation. Don’t dwell on the past, or the future, or anyone’s opinions or anything else. Just choose to be happy with yourself right now. That’s real freedom.

STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND DO THIS RIGHT NOW:

Speak it into existence

Easier said than done, I know, but it’s totally worth it. Just try. Practice makes perfect, however perfection isn’t what we should be striving for. I believe if we can prove that we showed up and did the best of our abilities every single day, we can at least say we have consistency. Through experimenting and adversity comes growth and achievement, so why not just enjoy each moment as they come? That’s my goal at least, freedom to the pursuit of happiness and art. Why?

1. Because I believe in myself.

2. I have clear career goals. They’re definitely goals at the moment, but I’m dedicated to making them a reality.

Now is the time my loves. There has never been a better time to inspire creativity, love and abundance into our lives.

What do you deny?

I deny the belief that I’m not disciplined enough to be a millionaire within the next 5 years. Yes, I’m familiar with all the sayings about money not buying happiness. I would prefer to live comfortably and to be able to save a million, while earning a million, in which I could then donate a million. I have common sense and all the necessary resources. Simply put, I choose to not take the time and make the effort. I’m a work in progress, I can’t deny that.

What would make today great?

If I could release my fears and decide once and for all to not engage in gossip.

1. I was able to express myself freely through art.

3. I challenged myself to not take anything personally at work and it appears to be going well. I feel like I’m doing a pretty good, as difficult as it may be to achieve in an office full of men.

If I could, I would have liked to learn a new alkaline vegan recipe to enjoy over the weekend.

How to Stay Motivated When You Just Aren’t Feeling It?

Need some tools to keep you going throughout the week? I got you fam! Sometimes things come up and we just aren’t in the mood to handle business. Staying disciplined is key.

Success looks like an iceberg. What people see compared to the size of what really happens underneath the surface are completely different. To acquire this success, there are stepping stones in which you must cross; from having the vision, being motivated, determination, to having patience and committing to the effort to keep positive thinking focusing on your desire, self esteem, persistence and belief in your goals. So what are you waiting for? You got this!

What people may not realize is the hard work you put into getting to know yourself and practicing self love so that you may be successful. So I say, keep doing you. Make your moves in silence. Secure the bag.

We get 24 hours in a day. How you manage your time is entirely up to you. Are you going to spend you precious moments scrolling through social media or are you going to put your talents to use by investing in yourself and your health? Be proactive with your decisions in life. Plan, evaluate and take action. Acquiring some long term and short term goals can help achieve this. If you’re thinking where do I even start? Start here. Start right now.

If you often hear yourself saying, “One day,” then I suggest you take the necessary measures to turn that saying into “Day one.” Why wait? There’s no time like the present time! We often don’t realize the one thing standing in our way is us. Life is all about the journey, and not the destination. If you don’t appreciate where you are at now, how will you ever get to where you want to be?

What we can focus our attention on right now is practicing gratitude as it will attract more positives into our lives. Remember to also be patient with yourself, because greatness doesn’t come overnight. Even if you feel fear, have the courage to step forward and embrace it by using daily positive rituals to keep you focused on you. So what are you waiting for? Start today. Reset those bad habits.

First, think of a habit you want to change. Maybe your first instinct when you wake up is to grab your phone. You have to think, what does that give me? What feelings do I attach to this action? My first thoughts are usually family and work to make sure I’m not late to something. Instead, what I can replace this with is journaling and drinking a warm cup of tea. So, what’s my solution? I move my phone into the bathroom every night before I go to sleep.

The same concept can be applied to that critical self talk you fill your brain with. You really believe you’re getting that self control you’ve been yearning for, but maybe you just need to smile more. Try practicing humor and detachment by nicknaming your critic. Miss Jay Bae the Procrastinator in my head likes to think she runs this show. Ha! She thought… Remember to keep your friends close. They should be able to hold you accountable in your moments of unclarity.

Maybe for you, accountability looks like not sitting around waiting for opportunity to present itself. If you’re looking to increase your productivity and flow, try to incorporate walking or meetings into your week. Make sure to schedule as such. Your phone has an alarm and a calendar at your fingertips.

Lastly, if you’re the type of person who needs to unwinds with a glass or two of wine every night, you could try swapping it with a session of restorative yoga. Schedule a class at your local studio and remember to always be teachable.

You can and will be successful if you believe in yourself. It all starts with you!
